Ploce

Ploce is a town situated on the Adriatic coast just north of the River Neretva delta in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County; it has population of approximately 6,500 inhabitants. The town of Ploce is a notable seaport. The most important feature of town is his natural position through the valley of the River Neretva , which connects the central areas of neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina with the Adriatic Sea. Town is situated in approximately half of distance between Split and Dubrovnik on the part of the road traffic along the Adriatic coast. It is also worth  mentioning that near the town there are Bacina Lakes, located along the branches of the mountain of Biokovo. Today Ploce is a small modern seaport town at the mouth of the River Neretva. The main town economy income is from the cargo seaport transport, with the second volume of transshipment in Croatia, and the port is connected to a large number of related activities. The city tourism, unlike other coastal cities in Croatia, has no particular significance. Conditions for tourism development exist because of its proximity to the mouth of the Neretva and Bacina Lakes, but the town future development is based on transportation position which will significantly contribute to recent construction of the Adriatic-Ionian and the Pan-European Corridor, whose hub is located in the vicinity of the city.
