Trpanj

Trpanj is a sea resort situated in the North West side of Peljesac peninsula, in county of Dubrovnik - Croatia, whose location enables you to come via sea or via land by a tourist road that stretches along the entire peninsula. Trpanj and surroundings are environmentally pure areas. There are no industrial plants on the entire peninsula. This eliminates the need for big ships to visit our shores, so a risk of pollution is down to the minimum. Few times a day car and passenger ferry service that take 60 minutes to cross from Ploce to Trpanj, a town 22 kilometers away from Orebic.

 

If the word Trpanj comes from a verb "trpjeti", meaning to endure, to suffer, to bear, then the name represents the sufferings that first inhabitants had to endure since the nature did not give them fertile land and wide fields to cultivate successfully. It is the most famous tourist destination on the northern coast of Peljesac. The inhabitants of Trpanj have been the main fishermen of the peninsula for several centuries, especially in fishing for sardele, with the best catches in nearby bays. Today here lives about 700 people, whose main occupation is farming and tourism industry. Trpanj is a place of rich history, numerous cultural and historical monuments. In Trpanj is a parish neoromanic church of St. Peter and Paul, built by using the pieces of the elder, and orphanage in 1902. There is the church of the Lady of Karmela with the altar in the renaissance style and the emblem of family Gundulic. For those with rheumatic, female and/or similar problems, Trpanj can offer a unique blend of medically tested and proven sulphur-hydrogen rich sea-mud. This unique mélange is available at a particular inlet ("Blatze") that receives no wind and no waves from the open sea. Food, beverage and other supply stores, a newspaper stand, the bank and ATM, post office, a gas station, local ambulance and pharmacy are right downtown.
