Lopud

Lopud Island, is located 7.5 NM northwest of Dubrovnik or distanced approximately an hour by regular ferry lines. Throughout the day there are 4 regular shipping lines. The number of daily lines increases during the summer season. The second largest of the Elaphite islands, located between islands Kolocep and Sipan, it was in the course of history often called the Insula Media (Lat. Middle Island). In addition, it is the most developed of the Elaphite islands covering an area of 4.63 km, including about 120 residents constantly living on the island. Lopud has an annual average of 2584 hours of sunshine. Nature has richly endowed this charming place on the Mediterranean with mild climate, accessible coastline and distinctive landscapes, and the passing centuries with architectural heritage. Lopud is one of the most beautiful examples of preserved medieval architectural arrangements in the Dubrovnik area. It is abundant with traces of its rich history, having 33 chapels, 4 churches, 2 convents, remains of the Rector’s Palace, Spanish fortress and the local museum. With its crystal-clear sea and sandy beaches, lush Mediterranean vegetation and area with no traffic at all, it is a perfect gateway to rest and recover from stressful life dynamics of the 21st century. It is large enough to enable you to escape and enjoy the loneliness and silence, yet small enough to arrive to all locations on foot.
